Other Accommodations

Attendance

Our office is able to offer some accommodations related to course attendance for students with disabilities, whose condition impacts their ability to attend class. These types of accommodations usually involve some leniency in a course attendance policies.

Leniency in attendance accommodations does not allow students the ability to miss large amounts of class without penalty, but rather grant them some flexibility to compensate for when their disability prevents them from attending class.

Leniency in attendance accommodations is not applicable in every class. For example, this type of accommodation cannot be implemented in some lab-based courses because of the hands-on nature of these labs that cannot be recreated at a later time. Furthermore, this type of accommodation cannot undermine the integrity of a course.

Eligibility for this type of accommodation is determined by an accommodations specialist through an individual assessment of a student’s needs. Supporting documentation of the disability and its effects on the student is also required.

To schedule an appointment with an accommodations specialist, or to learn more about this type of accommodation please contact our office at 970-491-6385 to schedule an appointment.

Assignments

Our office is able to offer some accommodations related to course assignments for students with disabilities, whose condition impacts that impact their ability to complete assignments on time. These types of accommodations may include short extensions on assignment due dates.

Leniency in assignment due dates do not allow students the ability to procrastinate on completing their assignments, but rather grants them some flexibility to compensate for when their disability prevents them from completing an assignment by the due date.

Assignment extension accommodations are not applicable for every class. For example, this type of accommodation cannot be granted in some lab-based courses because many of these classes require students to have completed one assignment before they can move onto the next. Furthermore, this type of accommodation cannot undermine the integrity of a course.

Eligibility for this type of accommodation is determined by an accommodations specialist through an individual assessment of a student’s needs. Documentation of the disability and its aff4ects is also required.

To schedule an appointment with an accommodations specialist, or to learn more about this type of accommodation please contact our office at 970-491-6385 to schedule an appointment.

Priority Registration

Students with mobility limitations or other disabilities that may require them to take classes at a certain time or location may benefit from priority registration. This provides an earlier access time into the online registration system for selecting classes and allows for a better opportunity to arrange a schedule that meets particular needs. The registration period for a semester begins in the middle of the prior semester. Each class is given access at different times, with athletes, upper-classmen (juniors and seniors) and graduate students being first to register.

Priority registration gives an undergraduate student with a disability access to registration at the same time graduate students are able to register. It does NOT give a student priority to getting in a class but merely an earlier chance to reserve a space in the class. Priority will be given to a student until they graduate.

Priority registration cannot be given to a student until after their first semester at CSU. New students register for their first semester of classes during their orientation.

To be eligible for priority registration, a student must self-identify with the SDC, and be approved by an accommodations specialist.
